First of all, everyone of us in this world has a unique set of eight characters formed from our date and time of birth. In Chinese Metaphysics, we call it BaZi (Eight Characters). We believe that these 8 characters can tell us about our entire life's journey since birth. I know this sounds weird. You might think how do these 8 characters tell so many things. In fact, they can and this has been practiced by BaZi practitioners in ancient times till now. Most of them use BaZi for fortune-telling but our practice is more focused on knowing our potential and how to maximize it.
首先，我们需要认定一个事实就是在世界上每一个人都拥有属于自己独有的八字。它之所以被称为八字是因为它是一组由我们出生日期和时间而拼成的八个字。我们相信，这八个字里涵盖了我们的整个人生所需要的经历。 我知道这听起来很难以置信，你可能会认为就这区区八个字怎么能讲出这么多东西？但实际上它是可以的，因为从古到今它就一直被命理学家用来为众人算命，如果没有一定的根据，早就被淘汰了。 一般人会认为，八字只是能算命，但我们却用它来发掘个人潜能，培养它以便能够在将来的路大展宏图。

If we are new to BaZi, looking at our own BaZi chart is equivalent to looking at some form of alien's secret scroll. You don't know where to start and what it means. Let's try to understand the BaZi Chart's Structure and the namings used by referring to the image below (BaZi Chart's Structure and Naming) before we proceed to our today topic.
BaZi is normally arranged right to left from year of birth to the hour of birth.
Pillar = Heavenly Stems + Earthly Branches Each pillar represents certain aspects of life. The age range slightly varies between man and woman because woman on an average can live up to 80 years old, whilst man up to 75 years old. To make it simple, we take 80 and divide it with the 4 pillars. Now, each pillar has around 20 years of each person's life. Year Pillar = Year Stem + Year Branch Represents our social network, market, mentors, friends — ages 1–20. Month Pillar = Month Stem + Month Branch Represents our career, customer, wealth, family, skills — ages 21–40. Day Pillar = Day Stem (Day Master) + Day Branch Represents our self characteristics and personal relationship — ages 41–60. Hour Pillar = Hour Stem + Hour Branch Represents our children, assets, thoughts, desire — ages 61–80.
External = Month Pillar & Year Pillar Our personality and behavior that reveal to others, how others think about us.
Internal = Day Pillar & Hour Pillar More personal/inner side of us, only those who are really close to us will know.

八字排法一般是从右到左，由年开始到出生时间。
柱 = 天干 + 地支 每柱代表人生里不同的领域。至于涵盖的年龄，男性和女性略有不同因为平均女性寿命是80岁而男性则75岁。但是为了方便计算，我们就一律用80平均分给4柱，那么每柱大约是20年的人生。 年柱 = 年干 + 年支 代表我们的社交网络，市场，导师，朋友，1-20岁。 月柱 = 月干 + 月支 代表我们的职业，客户，财富，家庭，技能，年龄21-40岁。 日柱 = 日主 + 日支 代表我们的自我特征和个人感情，年龄41-60岁。 时柱 = 时干+ 时支 代表我们的孩子，资产，思想，愿望，年龄61-80岁。
外 = 月柱和年柱 我们给别人看到的个性和行为，他人对我们的印象。
内 = 日主和时柱 隐藏在内心的一面，只有与我们关系密切的人才会发觉到。

Only with this single piece of information, we are able to know a little bit about ourselves. Amazing, isn't it? But that's not all. More information can be derived from the Day Master itself. Stay tuned for my next post.
Now we know who we are at a very basic level. To practice, we can start generating BaZi charts for people around us and begin to know more about them. Be mindful that what we discover now may conflict with our perspective towards the person. This is because the Day Master is an internal part of a person and only close ones will know the inner side of him/her.
What can we do with this information? Simple. We can create an effective and harmonious communication with them.
Example: If your boss is a YANG Day Master, are you going to tell them all the details on how to solve the problem? Of course not! What your boss is interested is whether or not the problem is solved! Or are you going to tell your boss about the details of your proposal? Please don't! The more details they have, the more stressful they will feel as their brain does not function that way. Eventually this will mess up the whole meeting. So, just let them know the big picture of your proposal. That's it:).
就这么一丁点的信息，我们就可以对自己了解多一点，是不是顿时觉得很不可思议了呢？慢着，这还不是全部哦，单单日主里我们还可以有更深一层的了解。下一个发文为您们揭晓。
现在，我们对自己有了基本的认知，我们可以开始查看身边人的日主是否相配以作确认与复习。如果不相配也不必惊慌，因为日主是属内，只有很要好的关系才会察觉。
今天学的要如何用呢？ 简单。 我们可以用它来与别人建立有效与和谐的沟通。 例如，如果您的老板是阳日主，您会告诉他们如何解决这个问题的所有细节吗？ 当然不会！ 老板感兴趣的是问题是否解决了！ 又或者您打算将您提案的详细内容一一呈现给您的老板？ 请不要！ 把太多资料抛给他们会使他们觉得很烦躁，因为他们的大脑本来就不是用来分解细腻的东四，最终可能把会议搞砸了。所以，只把提案大纲告诉他们就可以啦。^^
BaZi indirectly acts as an effective communication tool because by knowing someone more, we can handle them well and more in control. 八字间接可以用来与别人建立有效与和谐的沟通, 因为了解他人的想法，在言语中我们也比较拿捏得到说话的技巧与用词，那么大局就在我们掌控之内。
